The Education of Ronald Reagan
This perceptive account of Ronald Reagan`s career as spokesperson for the General Electric company credits that experience, from 1954 to 1962, as having been crucial to his development as a communicator as well as for changing his political views from liberal to conservative. In a sense, G.E. was his Harvard, and his professor was G.E.`s public relations expert Lemuel Boulware, who believed in educating people about the positive role of business in American life. Reagan learned his lessons well, giving thousands of presentations at G.E., and, after leaving the company, he was well-equipped for his historic endorsement of Barry Goldwater at the 1964 Republican Convention, a speech that made America take note of Reagan.
